I Listen You See – Hamdi Dridi (Tunisia)
I LIsten You See is a dance performance from Tunisia about the culture, customs and histories we share with each other and how they become visible in our behavior and our gestures. Choreographer Hamdi Dridi examines our cultural baggage, our history as it is part of our everyday behavior, our actions, gestures and habits. Didri increases our actions and habits, the silences and the repetitions in our behavior and turns them into dance.
Three Tunisian dancers pay a tribute in dance to the everyday actions, movements and behavior of working people. Three men who meet, three paths of life, three unique sounds and images, three memories that intersect. In their meeting they create a magical place in which their daily movements, behavior and routines merge into dance that makes visible the beauty of those routines and the culture and history they share. In I Listen You See, Hamdi Dridi creates a dance performance in which he shares a hidden heritage alive in the everyday actions and gestures of people in his home country, Tunisia.

Symphony of Now – Abdul Kinyenya (Uganda) & Melvin Fraenk (Netherlands)
A quest in dance for the freedom and addiction of the beat. A constant monotonous beat. Let yourself be carried away by the space and feel the energy, the (heart) beat and the vulnerability of all the dancers around you. Symphony of Now is a blend between European and African music influences. With constant music as a motor, the audience, along with the dancers, is brought into a hypnotic trance.
In 2019, Ugandan dancers of dance house Batalo East in Kampala came to the Netherlands. Together with Utrecht dance company DOX they brought the Afrovibes audience together in one big trip. They will be back in the fall of 2020! With new vibes and influences. Dancers and choreographers Abdul Kinyenya, Lilian Nabaggala Maxmillian and Faizal Ddamb from Batalo East, together with ArtBeat choreographers and dancers Melvin Fraenk, Çağdas Gülum, Anne Suurendonk and Tom de Wee from DOX will create the new performance Symphony of Now. As DJs, composers and dancers, Tom de Wee and Faizal Ddamba are particularly interested in the transformative power of techno music, which can temporarily blur the body’s boundaries through its repeating rhythms. They blend different European and African music influences and focus on the experience of the body.
The dancers investigate through dance how to enable states of flow, wholeness and transcendence and emphasize the connection between dance and para-religious experiences. In Uganda this spiritual bond is obvious but what about the scene in the Netherlands? How do the club scenes relate there and here?

Vanwege de Corona-maatregelen kunnen wij slechts een beperkt aantal bezoekers toelaten bij dit programma. Tickets worden vanwege de stoelopstelling alleen verkocht als losse tickets of duotickets. Als je naast elkaar wil zitten, kan dit alleen per 2, en is het nodig om een duoticket te kopen.

I Listen You See is een dansvoorstelling uit Tunesië over onze cultuur, gewoonten en geschiedenissen die we met elkaar delen en hoe die zichtbaar zijn in ons gedrag en onze gebaren. Choreograaf Hamdi Dridi onderzoekt onze culturele bagage, onze geschiedenis zoals die deel uitmaakt van ons alledaags gedrag, onze handelingen, gebaren en gewoonten. Didri vergroot die handelingen en gewoontes, de stiltes en de herhalingen in ons gedrag en zet ze om in dans.
Drie Tunesische dansers brengen een gedanst eerbetoon aan de alledaagse handelingen, bewegingen en gedrag van werkende mensen. Drie mannen die elkaar ontmoeten, drie levenspaden, drie unieke klanken en beelden, drie herinneringen die elkaar kruisen. In de ontmoeting van deze mannen ontstaat een magische plek waarin hun dagelijkse bewegingen, hun gedrag en routines overgaan in dans die de schoonheid in die routines en in de cultuur en geschiedenis die de mannen met elkaar delen zichtbaar maakt. Met In I Listen You See maakt Hamdi Dridi een dansvoorstelling waarin hij een erfgoed met ons deelt dat verborgen is maar levend in de alledaagse handelingen en gebaren van mensen in zijn thuisland, Tunesië.

Een zoektocht in dans naar de vrijheden en de verslaving van de beat. Een constante monotone beat. Laat je meevoeren door de ruimte en voel de energie, de (heart)beat en de kwetsbaarheid van alle dansers om je heen. Symphony of Now is een blend tussen Europese en Afrikaanse muziekinvloeden. Met constante muziek als motor wordt het publiek, met de dansers, in een hypnotiserende trance gebracht.
In 2019 kwamen de Oegandese makers van danshuis Batalo East in Kampala naar Nederland, waar zij met het Utrechtse gezelschap DOX het Afrovibes publiek lieten samen komen in één grote trip. In het najaar van 2020 komen ze terug! Met nieuwe vibes en invloeden. Dansers en choreografen Abdul Kinyenya, Lilian Nabaggala Maxmillian en Faizal Ddamb (tevens dj) van Batalo East maken samen met ArtBeat choreografen en dansers Melvin Fraenk, Çağdas Gülum, Anne Suurendonk en Tom de Wee (tevens dj) van DOX de performance Symphony of Now. Makers Tom de Wee en Faizal Ddamba zijn als dj, componist en danser bijzonder geïnteresseerd in de transformatieve kracht van techno muziek, die door haar herhalende ritmes de lichaamsgrenzen tijdelijk kan vervagen. Ze blenden verschillende Europese en Afrikaanse muziekinvloeden en richten zich op de ervaring van het lichaam.
De makers onderzoeken door dans hoe je toestanden van flow, heelheid en transcendentie mogelijk maakt en benadrukken de verbinding tussen dans en para-religieuze ervaringen. In Oeganda is die spirituele band heel evident, maar hoe zit het met de scene in Nederland? Hoe verhouden de clubscenes zich daar en hier?
